SCHENECTADY, NY – For the first time in eight seasons, Union's women's swimming and diving team defeated Hamilton (188-112).
The Dutchwomen started off the day with a win in the 400 medley relay featuring
Amy Nesterode (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott), Mary Larkin (Conklin, NY/Susquehanna), Brianne Philips (West Hartford, CT/Conard), and
Christa White (Washington, DC/Rosemary Hall) with a final time of 4:04.47. Nesterode also won the 100 back at 1:01.04. Larkin also won the 100 fly (1:01.01) and Philips took the 100 and 200 breast events at 1:08.74 and 2:31.20. White was a victor in the 50 free with a time of 25.20, 100 yd free with a time of 55.77, and was part of the 400 yd free relay. The others that took part in this free relay win were
Christina Bladek (Easton, CT/Lauralton), Meg Murphy (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford), and
Ashley Braniecki (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) winning with a final time of 3:50.59.
Also winning for Union was
Sarah Callahan (Shelton, CT/Shelton), who took the 1650 free with a time of 18:10.78.
Sydnie Wells (Bolton Landing, NY/Bolton Landing) won the 200 fly, clocking in at 2:12.24.
Molly Freeman (Barrington, IL/Barrington) led the diving for the Dutchwomen, winning both events. She received scores of 262.11 in the three-meter and 229.50 in the one-meter.
Hamilton's efforts were led by Mary Tripp (New Hartford, NY/Mercersburg Academy), who took the 200 free at 1:57.30, the 500 free at 5:14.96, and the 200 IM at 2:13.27. Suzie Wilson (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) won the 200 back for the Continentals at 2:10.37.
The Dutchwomen will host Ithaca on Feb. 4 starting at 2:00 p.m. The event was originally scheduled for 1 p.m.
